Description
| Moai head A unique and artistic Moai head, cast stone, handcrafted & coloured. About 890 monumental stone sculptures of varying sizes are found on Easter Island. The volcano Rano Raraku was their sacred place of origin. How old the moais are cannot be determined with certainty. Archaeologists agree that Easter Island was settled around the 4th or 5th century AD and that the indigenous people began to complete altars and first statues relatively quickly after this. The moais with round or square heads and eye sockets are thought to have been made from about the 12th to 13th century AD, the more modern moais (mainly at Rano Raraku) from about the 15th/16th century AD. A Moai figure for the Asiastyle garden The Moai sculpture was made from high-quality cast stone. Originals made from the solid stone serve as a model. In an elaborate process, each sculpture is given a final hand-applied finish. The colouring can vary and fade due to weathering. A Moai enriches your garden with its interesting and mysterious facial expression. |
